The women's cross country team fared well in Albuquerque Saturday when the participated in the University of New Mexico 2007 Lobo Invitational. Placing 5th out of eight teams, head coach Macario Campos was pleased with how the women ran.
Senior Pamela Erickson (Golden Valley, NM) came across first for the Mustangs, good for 20th (of 70 runners). She posted a time of 20:06. In second for the Mustangs was freshman Cassandra Sanchez (Acoma Pueblo, NM). "She is really coming along," says Campos. "She is definitely improving with every day." Sanchez came in just :13 after Erickson.
The Mustangs placed in front of New Mexico Highlands University, Eastern New Mexico University, and Dine College.
On the men's side, it was more of a challenge to place well. The men finished eighth (of nine teams) but just behind Division I New Mexico State University. The Mustangs tallied179 points, whereas, the Aggies had 176.
Junior Paul Gonzalez (West Covina, CA/West Covina High School) (West Covina, CA) came in first for WNMU for the second week in a row. He ran the 8K in 27:36. Freshman Chris Weaver (Gallup, NM) finished second with a time of 29:17.
The Mustangs are off next weekend. They will travel to Las Cruces, New Mexico, on September 22 to participate in the Kachina Classic on the New Mexico State University campus.
